Also, scroll down about half on this page for another nice comparison option: http://www.apple.com/iphone-6/display/
While you’re there, take a trip over to the iPod tab. When you compare iPod models you’ll notice the iPod Classic has been dropped. I’m a little sad.
I think Apple sees that device functionality will merge. Will there be room for an iPad mini? Or will people simply own a huge phone? I think the phone and a companion device like the Apple Watch will be the future. It’s everything most people will need.
There is still a place for the iPad Air. I still love the 11″ MacBook Air. It’s the best computer I ever had. It’s small, but very powerful to get the job done. I think if the iPad Air has a tad bigger screen and Apple adds some desktop functionality like having split screen apps, then the iPad Air will stay relevant as a tablet. Not as a companion to the Mac, but as the “desktop class” computer next to the phone.
I think Apple is smart to see that the phone will always be the #1 buy. And the Apple Watch will be the companion device. While Jobs introduced the iPad as sitting in between the phone and the desktop, right now the iPad relevancy is about eventually replacing all the power and needs that the MacBook Air provides.
It is comically large. I’m mad it got optical stabilization, and the 4.7 did not. If the .2mm of thickness difference was the reason, that is weak sauce. That’s a feature to really be missed if you’re into photography.
Every person with the 6+ will love it. All the bashing of Android phones will be a thing of the past because you will see how great larger phones are.
You’ll reach for your tablet(s) less and less. I’m happy they validated the large phone market.
“You’ll reach for your tablet(s) less and less.”
I’m very interested to see if that is true.
I was in disbelief until I jumped above the fray. I rarely use any of my tablets now (iPads or Nexus 7).
I use my iPad if only because of the size of the screen and my failing eyesight makes reading a lot of stuff on the iPhone 5 hard.
I’ll be curious to see if the size of the Plus makes me able to ditch my iPad…
You’ll still need the tablet for screen real estate sensitive tasks (movies, etc).
Perhaps but I’ve watched some TV shows/movies on my iPhone 5s while on a plane. Not as awful as I thought it would be.
Now, they were things I’d seen before and weren’t “action” or special effects heavy but….tolerable.
Indeed, I’m looking forward to trying one in person for just that “failing eyesight” issue. The 6 Plus looks huge in the photo, but if you put your current iPhone up to the iPhone 5c you can see how much that image is magnified. In real life I think the 6 Plus will be a reasonable “larger” iPhone.
I’m a road warrior so I suspect if the 6+ works for me I’ll leave my iPad Air at home. On weekends it will probably be the reverse.
Television is okay on an iPod touch-sized screen, but not if it’s something that requires close scrutiny, like genre entertainment with intricate details.
I can’t think of many movies I’d want to watch that way. Perhaps a few indie films from the 1980s.
Have you ever used an iPad before? There is a HUGE difference between an iPad and a phone, it’s not just screen size, it’s the way the apps look and are programmed. Get a grip.
I think that ultimately is the endgame — tablets are going to be replaced by phones. Dustin Curtis has a good analysis: http://dcurt.is/the-death-of-the-tablet
Yep, have 3 within my reach.
You’re missing it though. The 5.5″ has a landscape mode that mimicks iPad apps. Just saying…pay attention to the landscape before attempting to lambast me as ignorant.
“FaceTime over cellular uses H.264/H.265”
Can you confirm this little tidbit.
How is it possible, at most iphone probably can
decode to H.265 but not encode H.265
because that would world’s first.
