Jan Dawson on iCloud:
Lastly, we as the end users are always the weak point in security. That’s not to absolve tech companies of blame: in fact, it’s a key challenge they should all be working to overcome, while managing the balance between removing the barriers to good security and maintaining strong protections for users.
I think this sums up the whole iCloud situation for me.
So short version, companies like Apple are responsible for solving user stupidity?
Insert obligatory “if you make it idiot-proof…” comment here.
No technology will ever survive being used by actual users. Take Chrome for example. Everyone LOVED Chrome. Loved it. Now that we have a good number of people using Chrome … we have hit all of the little problems that we were having with IE. They’re just faster problems this time.
Technology alone can’t solve these sorts of problems. I’m happy to hear that Apple is going to make some changes (and they should), but users are going to find new and fun ways to break everything … that is their job!
Exactly my point. you can’t really make anything that is idiot proof cause God has a sick sense of humor and is always making better idiots (or maybe that’s Satan it does seem a tad evil after all)
Yes. If your product works perfectly, except for your stupid users. The problem is your product, not your users. Products exist in conjunction with your users, not as standalone thought pieces.
