Netflix was forced to pay Comcast for faster speeds

Netflix speeds became so slow in December 2013 and January 2014 that customers grew irate, Netflix said in its petition. Calls made to Netflix’s customer support center about slow-loading videos more than quadrupled during those months.

It’s sad when people are forced to cancel their subscription to Netflix because the Comcast speeds were so slow. No wonder Netflix decided to pay Comcast; they really had no other choice.

  1. Laws protecting consumers will fail until consumers give up their addiction the the incessant trade off of cheap vs fair. WE get what we deserve.

  2. I think services like Netflix could benefit greatly from using Bittorrent protocol for video transfer.

  3. I was forced to upgrade to Comcast Xfinity (25 Mb/s) because my AT&T DSL (1.2 Mb/s) was so slow. And Comcast recently doubled my data rate, at no additional cost to me, to 50 Mb/s.

So yeah, Netflix has run beautifully on my Apple TV ever since I switched.

  4. With Apple executives praising Concast.
    Putting Weather Channel as default
and paying for same faster speeds
    without even hint of irony.

Apple has not once stood up for Net Neutrality
because they can always outspend the other guy.

  5. Ooh they doubled your data rate too? Likely because fiber or gigabit speed is coming to your city just like mine. Don’t think they were being nice with the speed doubling, they just want to make it harder for you to leave. Also, I don’t believe 1.2Mb/s should be classified as high-speed. It should be looked down upon in derision and disgust just like we look back on dialup with scorn. Shame on broadband providers AND the FCC for bringing this pox on us all.

  6. same, but when connections are coming from different IPs every time, it would become impossible for comcast to throttle.
