The new Tesla S electronics update will communicate with your iPhone (there’s no Android support), sending you notifications and allowing you to use your iPhone to start your car. The question has been asked before about the security of remote start systems like this. No car is theft proof. And the convenience seems high enough to be worth the potential risk.

V6 has not been rolled out yet – a beta tester leaked screenshots on a forum. Believe me, I check for it every day in anticipation – we’ve been waiting a LONG time for v6. Also, some users will get it sooner than others – they tend to roll it out slowly, but nobody outside the beta program has received it yet.
BTW, they hired one of the best security experts around from Apple (Kristin Paget aka the hacker princess), so I trust they are being really careful about this feature.
Not really sure why it’s necessary to start a Tesla remotely. To warm up the electric engine? No. To turn on the seat heater in advance? Maybe.
If you could start the car and have it drive itself from the parking garage to where you’re standing at the curb, then that would be something.
Wait until one loses their iPhone or hacks your iPhone to steal the car.
