Elizabeth Holmes is only 30 years old, but has a lifetime of success. Back in 2003, Holmes was a sophomore at Stanford University and envisioned a process of performing blood tests with a device that required much less blood (just a drop) than existing blood tests (normally requiring a vial or two of blood).
Fast forward to today, and she’s a billionaire, running Theranos. Her goal is to change the world. She wears black, and operates her company in super stealth mode, jealously guarding her company’s secrets.
This is a fascinating story, one that reminds me in many ways of Steve Jobs and Apple.
I would imagine Jobs became aware of this company and many others like it while he was sick. You have no idea how absolutely f’ed up the health care system is until you actually need it. I have no doubt that this is what the iWatch and associated infrastructure are going to tackle next. There are few areas Apple can enter that are so ripe for disruption, within their scope of competency, and can make a dent in Apple’s bottom line. If it makes sense, Apple will partner with these folks, and/or others like them.
Also – can you imagine the progress that can be made with instant or near instant feedback on your health stats? Not only knowing early if something’s wrong, but knowing whether a treatment is working. Apple is in a good place to be able to handle that data.
I hope Google stays away… I don’t trust them with my email, there’s no way I’d trust them with my medical history.
This bit about Theranos is surprising and suspicious.

Blood Test Billionaire would be a great band name.
You’re right. What a cast of characters on this BOD.
I’ll pass until they’re off the board and prosecuted for their crimes.
Any health initiative with these criminals on the board makes me feel swick just thinking about it.
And Jim. There is more to running an aggregation site than passing along stuff like this. Your post without questions is a mile wide and an inch deep.
Do better.
I can not wait for home blood tests!!! The healthcare industry is a joke and I’ve had more success self diagnosing than with Dr’s who are only trying to prescribe medicine they get paid to prescribe.
Your liberal leaning is projecting.
It’s not liberal, it’s radical. And I would say the same if other politicians sat on this board.
I do think it’s odd that there is no one with any medical device experience on the board. Only Foege and Frist have any sort of medical background and the latter is more politician. Shouldn’t a medical company have more people with backgrounds saving lives than ending them?
Yeah. This instantly makes me suspicious of them. She should have stayed in the shadows.
What country are you from? Here in America, we call our original liberals, our ‘Founding Fathers.’
