OK, 3rd party battery – so that kind of puts it in the same league as the killer iPhone chargers. Having said that… in the article it states Samsung actually has a warning about covering the phone up? Does Apple have the same problem? I know my iPhone gets warm when I use it a lot, but hell, phones are meant to be in your pocket or purse… how does ordinary usage like that not restrict airflow?
The benefits of having a user replaceable battery
When you’re hot, you’re HOT.
The ‘S’ is for sizzle.
If this had happened with an iPhone, everyone would be saying “Apple is doomed.” Funny how media is one-sided…
You do realize that these have happened to all smartphones. Even to iPhones this year. It does not have to be 3rd party battery.
two-three times a year there is a worldwide story when iPhone catches fire. Last one was in spring at norway.
And one story that happens every winter in north is that iPhones are the worst smartphones in the low temperature. They do not kid in EULA that these should not be used in the freezing conditions. Thought, I run every day using endomondo in iPhone. And iPhone stops working in -30C couple times a year. And 5s is much better than previous models with freezing. This is also linked to batteries.
If someone would innovate with batteries it would disturb the industry, and whole lot of other ones too. But there is nothing in pipelines.
Happened to an S4 with an OEM battery. Really is an interesting story about Samsung’s PR too, take a look
The most interesting takeaway for me in the coverage on the mainstream media I was watching yesterday was that the word Samsung was not mentioned at all. They did mention the removable battery so it was obviously not Apple.
But, man, had this been an iPhone the press would have been all over it.
This says a lot about Samsung’s media clout. Jim’s headline calls it out.
And every one brings out the media in droves. This happens and the media do not mention Samsung. What does that tell you?
And on the “nothing in the pipelines” is precisely why Apple bought that fuel cell company a couple of months back.
I saw an app the other day that you place under your pillow and it supposedly measures your sleep cycles. Sounds scary in this context.
I loved how every news story I saw never mentioned it was a Samsung phone. If this was an iPhone it would have been mentioned for sure.
Yup, I noticed the same thing. MSM and internet tabloid blogs (Verge, BI, etc) are pathetic.
Sleep cycle interrupted by the fire from the recording device. 😛
HTC comes off as the class act all around on this one.
