How they made the exploding head in “Scanners”

I’d love to see the outakes of the attempts before they found a solution. And I think I may finally actually see this movie. I was too young for an R movie when it came out, but I’ve always wanted to see it. 33 years later it should be interesting seeing the special effects.
Yup, loved Scanners when it came out. Another offbeat 80s sci-fi thriller I liked is “The Hidden” with Kyle MacLachlan (Dune, Twin Peaks, How I Met Your Mother, etc.), Michael Nouri (Flashdance, The O.C. NCIS, etc.), and Claudia Christian (Babylon 5, Shrek, etc.). Alien cop and alien bad guy inhabit human bodies and wreak havoc on an unsuspecting Earth. Plenty of action (stolen Ferrari vs. stolen Porsche, stripper vs. police shootout) and plenty of deadpan black humor. Good B-movie entertainment value.
Scanners was awesome, and don’t forget about Videodrome. Basically anything David Cronenberg did in the early ’80’s is worth a watch.
