Airbus has filed a seat patent that appears to pack people in without all the clunky cushions and awkward folding tables…Its cushions are shaped liked bicycle saddles, and when the seats aren’t being used, they fold vertically to save space.
“Reduced comfort remains tolerable for the passengers in as much as the flight lasts only one or a few hours,” Airbus sagely calculates.
How cheap would the flight have to be for you to pay to sit in those torture devices for two hours?
Going from $300 to $50, for dense European commuter runs – or better, for packed planes in India and SE Asia?

Thanks, but no thanks. I am not a big guy, and I already feel like a sardine getting on some of these planes. I’d sooner drive or not go at all. You couldn’t pay me to sit on one of those things for more than 15 minutes.
No kidding. I am a big guy and one of the reasons why I don’t ride a bicycle is because of those seats.
That and the fact I’m far too lazy to pedal a bicycle… 🙂
The FAA will never allow them in the US. Too unsafe in a crash.
Airbus will make them FAA-certified, it’s what they do after all.
