That is why Teachers were protesting at
Gates Foundation Headquarter for
destroying the Public Schools System.
Certain epiphanies seem to have struck both Gates and Jobs. For both, marrying well; for Jobs, struggling just to stay alive. Some people get better with age.
The tin man found his heart and the good that has and continues to come from that cannot be overstated.
You have no further to look than the teachers themselves for that issue. (not all but waaay to many)
The clowns went on strike for a month and a half of my final semester of grade twelve and screwed up several hundred students educations.
Only a group burdened by weapons-grade stupidity would claim something is an essential service (which it is) and then sabotage it so thoroughly. Remember far too many teachers are teacher because they got their BAs and thought to themselves “Oh crap, what am I going to do with this nearly useless humanities degree”
I have a lot of respect for the good teachers out there though. It must take herculean effort not to smack the shit out of people in the lunchroom some days.
Well if you want Ph. Ds to be teaching
your precious kids then you better fork over more money
for Charter Schools because
that is what is being promoted in US Think tanks
and conservative Billionaires are funding them for last ten years in order to destroy the social system keeping Prayer and Creationism off of School property.
Yet you want Teachers to make sacrifice for the social good.
College Textbooks went up 800% in 30 years.
1 Trillion is college debt. Virtual slavery.
I am sure all that is just because of inflation.

every of other country has Teacher Unions. They are BA graduates.
Yet it is only America that spends
the most and most of that money goes
to Administrators not Teachers.
Yet only in America they teachers get the blame.
Right. Blame the lowest-paid participants in the public-school food chain for trying to look out for their own interests. That’ll get you great results.
I don’t think you should ever put aside your empathy or ignore suffering because you have bills to pay.
This reads like an excuse: go screw the world over so you can make a buck, but then later, when it is convenient to you, do something good and it will all even out.
In practice, a Stanford grad could be encouraged by this to go and spend a decade making an app that helps rich people to more conveniently find vacation property rather than building, for example, a bottle that filters dirty water into clean water. Like someone who gets a medical degree and does boob jobs or drug company research instead of actually healing people.
Can you imagine if a young Steve Jobs were given this lecture and took it to heart? He would have stayed at Atari and tried to become a video game millionaire and there wouldn’t have been an Apple II or a Macintosh, which enabled access to general purpose computing for millions of people who otherwise would not have had it.
But really, this commencement address is just meant to continue the process of whitewashing Bill Gates’ legacy.
