CNBC did a short interview with Elon Musk that I found interesting. Though the questions asked were simplistic, Musk’s responses were telling, gave a sense of his seriousness of purpose. There are plenty of critics out there, but there’s no denying his talent. If he says he’s going to put a human on Mars by 2026, I believe him.
Elon Musk on the importance of colonizing Mars
Hauser: Now, this is the plan. Get your ass to Mars.
One assumes you mean 2026. Otherwise, they’d have had to be on their way.
Elon Musk is a hero
He said astronauts to the ISS by 2026, not to Mars.
Mars was “10 to 12 years”.
the shuttle will be called prometheus
Absolutely. Fixed. Thanks.
I have great respect for Elon Musk. Guy started from nothing, created three successful companies, and is living his dreams, while pushing humanity forward in significant ways.
But no one’s perfect. Case in point, lately he’s been talking about various fantasy projects. It was this supertrain track, now it’s going to Mars in 12 years.
12 years is a long time dude. Don’t talk in advance like that. Plans change. First do, then talk about it.
Even billionaire geniuses get things wrong sometimes, and when an influential person opens their mouth, they should speak with confidence, otherwise sooner or later no one will take what they say seriously.
Let’s assume he said “10 to 12 years” in 2014. Now do the math…
Yes, but the original post (by Dave Mark) said that Musk said we’d have people on Mars by 2016. It has since been edited.
Oh, pardon then.
