This video was originally shown during the WWDC keynote. I love the incredible attention to detail. For the designer in me, this is like candy to watch.
Some might see this as a move of OS X towards iOS. I see it more as both OS X and iOS moving toward a more beautifully detailed common future.
To me this is the revenge of Aqua.
I love this UI, even that shamefully flamboyant folder icon.
The first time i had i glimpse of aqua, was when i fired up a Mac ( the gorgeous 1st flatPanel 17” iMac ) for the first time, i had never, ever heard of Apple Computer, Inc.
Instead of Windows XP, i saw this gorgeous UI.
Imagine that!
Apple just made Aqua better!
Gorgeous overall, but it’ll take me a while to get used to the new ultra-rounded, ultra-cute Finder icon (and thus the very symbol of “Mac” since Mac OS 8!).
They fixed the gear icon. In the keynote, the side gears were not stationary, but in this video they are. People must’ve called them on it. When I saw that error I couldn’t believe it.
I’ve been playing with the dev beta for a few days, and so far I love it… except for the folder icons. They’re just too bright and saturated for my taste.
the gears in the Settings icon dont appear stationary to me in the above youtube vid — as the main cog turns so do the side gears.
the icons are great. wish they had used these for ios7. especially the Contacts and Settings icons.
The flat dock is worth the price of admission alone! Quite looking forward to the ‘dark’ theme as well.
Actually, you’re both wrong (or rather, neither of you are quite right 🙂 In the keynote version, the large central gear rotated and the two side gears rotated with it as if they were fixed to the central gear i.e. all 3 rotated as if they were a single object. On the YouTube version, the side gears are anchored in place, but correctly turn as if they are being driven by the large central gear.
So is it “yos might” or “yo sem it e”?
Where a UI that I use every day is concerned, I’m not a fan of either monoline-thickness navigation icons or typefaces. Neither scales down well.
Less contrast + less-distinctive shape = less legibility and usability.
It’s “yo sem it ee”, with the accent on “sem” (at least that’s how they pronounce it on TV here in the U.S.)
Agreed, although also I hate the translucency (too distracting). I’ve made my Yosemite wallpaper single-color medium grey.
You can turn the transparency off in System Preferences > Accessibility and it’ll all go back to looking very much like previous releases.
