Sometimes we think too much in terms of how our tech gadgets are designed and not enough about how everything is designed. Om Malik has a few for us to look at.
Roads. Looking at satellite images in Google Maps or Apple Maps can make you appreciate how incredibly well designed some roads are.
Some of those objects are what most people criticize Apple for. Form before function. How are those watches functional? Especially the second one with the bizzaro face. That is hard to read. Thus it fails as a watch.
Don’t get me wrong, they are all beautiful as objects when it comes to looks. But can that B&O speaker be worth $800 when it doesn’t have any stereo separation?
Or the “things to show off how rich I am” list (except for probably the watch and backpack).
Although both items are very beautiful, it seems odd to me that design critiques always include watches, and the current frenzy is over “smart watches”. Yet, I look around the office and see so few watches these days.
