I just discovered You Are Not So Smart. I can’t remember that cats name who hosts it. It’s about cognitive biases and psychology. I’d highly recommend it.
David McRaney.
Who the hell is Cassey?
Short and obvious list, but I’m with him on Hypercritical – it was the best. I disagree that “Back to Work” has “evolved into discussing a number of topics including Florida.” Devolved is more accurate. The show lost focus and turned into a freeform ramble, and on the topic of Florida, Merlin and Dan both hate it and spent an entire episode bashing it in addition to the constant negative references to it on other episodes. As a proud and happy Floridian, it was a huge turnoff. Merlin’s massive talent is wasted on random discussions of comic books and hotel bathrooms.
Actually, Merlin’s best work of late was subbing for Dan on Amplified. He’s such a smart and interesting guy when not bantering about stupid stuff.
DISCLAIMER – I have some graphic novels on my shelf and grew up loving the Marvel universe. There’s nothing wrong with talking about comics on a podcast about comics. Back to Work WAS my fave podcast until it ran off the rails.
My podcast collection in order is: Accidental Tech Podcast, Amplified, The Big Web Show*, Debug, Happy Monday*, Home Recording Show, ShopTalk*, Systematic, The Talk Show With John Gruber, Unmatched Style – BizCraft*, and The Web Ahead*. And I’m always looking for great (I don’t have time to listen to good) podcasts. The * podcasts relate to my field, web development/design.
In January I wrote a blog post listing all the podcasts I listened to in 2013. You can check it out here: http://laketa.com/the-podcast-list-of-201314/
I subscribe to about 18 podcasts. Two can be described as “tech”: “InDesign Secrets” and Shawn King’s “Your Mac Life.” A third, “The Critical Path,” discusses the business side of tech.
I’ve been listening to YML for between ten and fifteen years. While some of the other tech people might occasionally have interesting things to say, few have held my attention to the degree that I’d consider subscribing, much less supporting. “Your Mac Life” is the exception.
Thanks!
