In honour of The Publisher’s adventures in Ireland this coming week, I present this list. But I’m not sure where they got their data from. For example, there’s no way Poutine is the “drunk food of choice” in Canada.
The most popular drunk foods around the world
As an Irish man, there’s no way that champ and butter is the post pub food of choice. It’s most likely going to be: garlic chips (fries), cheesy garlic chips, a battered sausage, a batterburger, or a spice burger.
I think most of the “popular drunk foods” they describe may come from “bad data” but it doesn’t make most of it look absolutely delicious though! 🙂
Whom ever compiled this list has never actually visited any of the countries listed.
Actually they were spot on with the poutine for Canada. Though it looks much more appetizing live than in the video..
I would strongly disagree. I’ve been drinking in Canada for many years and not once has anyone I know ever had poutine as “drunk food”. Maybe popular in Quebec but certainly not in the vast majority of the rest of the country.
That is absurd.
The drunk food of choice in Canada is pizza, by the slice — same as in the US.
The thing with Canada is about half the things you can say about it are also true of the US, and about half are not. So when making a list like this, there is a temptation to identify a native Canadian item like poutine as the winner. But it’s not necessarily so. Knowing which is which shows you actually know what is going on in Canada.
Although, to be fair, you could say that you have to be drunk to enjoy poutine, and you might be right. Maybe that is what this list is really saying. Maybe it is, “foods from around the world that you’d have to be drunk to enjoy.”
As a Czech I can confirm our national drunk food is pretty wrong. Smažený sýr is not a mozzarella patty, it is usually some cheap Eidam, far from Dutch original Eidam. Anyway you won’t get this kind of food in a pub in Czech Republic. Our drunk food would be rather a pickled camembert (hermelín) with bread.

I’m Canadian. There’s no way. Poutine is great and you can buy it anywhere, but after drinking? Wings, nachos or burger.
I correctly foresaw the Japan Drunk Food as Ramen but I gotta say WTF are they doing with that “recipe”?! Chicken/Beef Broth?! Broccoli!? Lime!? Raw Egg!? Everything about that is just so wrong!
You are right that Poutine is most popular un-sober food in Quebec (I would say “hands down” even), although I think it is gaining in Ontario if I’m not mistaken…

UK food is totally wrong as well. Kebab or a burger does the job just fine ))) Prob half of them do end up on the floor anyways

List of facts pulled out of someone’s ass. Never would I choose currywurst as drunk food. Döner Kebab is more like it, but it wouldn’t look anything like the one in the video.
I don’t know about the rest of Canada, but here in Quebec the poutine is hands down the most popular drunk food. Pizza being the second choice.
