A number of Yahoo insiders I have talked to said her plan to pitch Apple on the idea as its marquee mobile search partner is far along. The company has prepared detailed decks, including images of what such a search product would look like, and hopes to present them to Apple execs.
I’m not sure that Apple will go for this, yet. Apple will strive to give its customers the best products possible and when it comes to search Google is perceived as being the best. I don’t think Apple will let its lawsuits interfere with doing what’s best for its customers.
Wait, Yahoo as a search partner? Didn’t they dump their search engine and are now using Bing as their backend?
Why doesn’t Apple buy DuckDuckGo and make it their own? Forget google, bing, and yahoo.
Also, Yahoo search sucks.
Except we don’t know that Google is significantly superior to Yahoo! Business Insider played devil’s advocate and argues that they are closer than you’d think.

What I find most compelling is the argument that Google does not have a monopoly on the world. Apple can plug into Amazon, Shazam, Twitter, Facebook, etc., which Google cannot. Apple could tap into a larger database than Google’s and that would be interesting.
They’re all the same as far as finding the information you want. What it really comes down to now is how it’s displayed to you. I personally HATE ads! Please give me an ad-free search Apple.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, if Apple had a search engine it would cost you $1/search
No. It would be like Siri: free, good but not great, and only available on Apple products.
I don’t know how you can have good search without making it open to everyone. Part of Google’s algorithm is the volume and breadth of search, if you limit that you limit the power of search. But I guess the extent of Apple users’ search is “how to suck Steve Job’s knob” anyway
I will switch permanently to whichever search engine first adds links to the others.
Just like all Apple’s other pay-per-use features. Like how they charge $0.99 per use of Maps, or $0.49 every time you make a Siri request.
Dumbass.
strange, ive never found myself thinking that. in fact, i only think about investing in tools that give me the best value in return for my money. apple’s products are usually pretty good at this, many times the best.
Ok, no use debating anymore, anytime I make a valid point my comment gets deleted… Apple censorship I guess. Long live Apple!
I’m waiting for your valid point.
I’ve said the same thing. Search is core to many of Apple’s services, but all the extra content and features that a company like Yahoo (or MS/Bing) adds on top is just noise.
I did read DuckDuck didn’t want to sell to anyone. I get that, but I also get that everybody has a price too.
