Apple on Monday updated its Developer Web site with some new numbers indicating that adoption of iOS 7 is very high. According to the numbers released by Apple, 87% of its devices are on iOS 7, 11% are using iOS 6 and 2% are using an iOS version earlier than 6.0.

It could be skewed by the notion that the more ‘proactive’ iOS users are the ones who frequent the App store the most, therefore would have the latest software installed…
Possibly true, but as this is on the developer portal it’s the people who are using the app store that they care about 🙂
Right now you can write your app to support iOS 7 only and still capture 87% of the people who frequent the app store, 98% if you support iOS 6 too. Not bad considering iOS 6 is just over 1.5 years old.
Yeah, these numbers probably don’t represent those that don’t use the Appstore on a frequent basis or not at all, maybe because they’re using a version of iOS that isn’t supported by newer apps anymore.
But: The Android numbers are gathered the same way, Google Play Store during a 7-day period.
They too don’t represent the users with very old devices, but only the (more) active ones.
And in this group, Android still has quite a big problem with fragmentation
iOS7’s on my iPod touch, but not on our iPad 2. Because I love my wife and I want her to continue to enjoy using the thing.
I wish I could go back to ios6 so I could love my ipad again.
How many months or years are people like you and Macy going to post this on every article that mentions iOS 7? Will you ever move on with your life and accept the things you can’t change? Do you think if you post enough of these Apple will roll back globally to iOS 6?
Nice! we’re trying to drop 6 from our app requirements before we launch. Hopefully management will allow it sooner than later.
Does it bother you when anyone express personal preferences that differ from yours?
I know Apple rolls back nothing. I also know we’re part of a user population that’s still waiting for iOS7’s precious eccentricities to shake out.
I don’t regret upgrading my iPod, but my wife isn’t as enamored of change for it’s own sake as you are.
Where did I say I was “enamored of” anything? I just don’t know why you and your ilk are still posting this on unrelated articles 6 months after the release of iOS 7. Nobody else wants to read it, so I hope it is at least cathartic for you.
“…you and your ilk…” That’s charming. What specific ilk are you referring to?
“Nobody else wants to read it…” Speaking for the site’s entire readership now, are you? Hilarious.
Your ilk is people who post about it everywhere on unrelated articles.
Thanks for noticing! Context is important!
