Microsoft went through a blogger’s private Hotmail account in order to trace the identity of a source who allegedly leaked trade secrets.
A March 17 court filing by federal prosecutors reveals that Microsoft’s Office of Legal Compliance approved the decision after confirming that the leaked data in question included proprietary Microsoft code.
Wow.
Sorry, Jim, but I have absolutely no problem with this. Use a company’s hosted service to try to rip them off? Unless it’s technically impossible, I’d expect them to look.
Imagine Think Secret on iTools, for instance. Wouldn’t happen.

I’m certain Apple has the same rights if an employee used their apple.com or iCloud email account for similar purposes.
but they didnt read the employee’s mail — they read the blogger’s, looking for the employee.
cant say that having my mail opened up and inspected should the provider suspects an infraction from one of their own is something that sits well w/ me.
