That seems very reasonable. I was expecting a horror story.
That’s pretty much what I understand Adobe CC does when the subscription lapses.
Without alternative choices, I still consider it extortion.
I’d rather use a free iPad app and suffer the drawbacks, than pay monthly fees in perpetuity.
Yes, because if you stop subscribing to cable TV and they stop letting you do the stuff that they are selling (watch TV) it is indeed extortion. Also there are alternative choices. It’s called google docs / iWork / openlibreoffice / LaTeX.
Sure, there are… if you get to choose what format your clients’ work is created in. And if you don’t care about fully using the work you’ve already done in the past.
Well, unless you are using complicated features of word it shouldn’t be a problem. For instance, basic formatting and tables and pictures should translate fine. I’m not sure what the clients’ requirements usually are but can you submit pdf’s?
I’m talking about publishing and Adobe CC. Word is a relatively simple matter to replace in professional publishing workflows, because it’s not used as a final for print, beyond things like relatively simple internal documents.
If I agree to do a job for such a client, they’ll very likely tell me what software I need to be working in, because their in-house process is standardized on it.
Ah, I see we were talking apples and oranges.
