Stanford professor Andrei Linde is one of the main authors of the inflationary universe theory, a core explanation of what happened in the first moment of the Big Bang that created the universe.
As you no doubt have heard by now, yesterday a critical element of inflation was proved, at least experimentally, and the astrophysics world is giddy with excitement.
This video shows the moment when Professor Linde was told of these results, that his decades of hard work have finally borne fruit. A truly beautiful moment.

And the arbitraries go on. . .a new arbitrary to “prove” a previous one. So what? What’s the benefit to anyone–except to “scientists” looking for grant money to continue the scam?
i guess you don’t use planes, trains, or automobiles. and you probably believe the earth is 6,000 years old. you do realize most of your modern comforts come from this sort of true science, don’t you ? otherwise i’d invite you to drop all modern medicine, any computer or cell phone, car, and well pretty much most modern things.
and i’m an engineer so pretty hard core simple, but i respect where all my work “toys” come from, all my math, and all my science. it comes from guys like this. my highest respect goes to them.
Whoa, let’s not go off the deep end, bubby. The problem is with people BELIEVING IN science as an “ultimate” truth, and no, I’m not a creationist, either, far from it. I’m talking about this hoaky “big bang” theory as one of the previous arbitraries, which “science” has duped the public into believing. Its name has the word “theory” in it, after all.
i was kidding a bit about the 6,000 year, i didn’t get that sense from your posting. i agree big bang is a theory and you are right to question it. as this group is doing and will hopefully continue to do. but they are working on understanding it, and at a key moment in .. “space-time” 🙂
we need to have smart people poke at the edge in order to understand the world we live in.
there is so much anti-science these days that it’s scary. i’m in Canada and our government is actively destroying libraries and defunding science: there won’t be much left in Canada soon.
So i take issue with people suggesting scientists always wanting grant money — they probably do but you know what, it’s a great investment. we need more science, not less. and we need great minds like these working on real science.
