This box arrived in the mail today. My brother Stu was cleaning out his garage and he ran across some of his (my?) old CodeWarrior shirts. He kindly packed them up and posted them to me. I must say, I was delighted and a big wave of nostalgia pushed me around a bit.
I worked for Metrowerks, the makers of the CodeWarrior development environment, back in the mid-’90s. An amazing experience and one of the best times in my life. Metrowerks was full of incredibly smart people with a brilliant marketing team. The CodeWarrior T-shirts were just plain cool.

Cool shirts, no doubt, all gifted to me from you, either as you performed a wardrobe reduction or as you cleaned out your swag bags after a convention. Alas, I’m now too spherical to wear them and breathe with any real level of comfort.

So cool. I have one of those somewhere. Great environment, great people. I was at Apple then, and it saved my butt on more than one occasion.
I still have (and wear) my “‘They’ Use CodeWarrior”. It’s definitely seen the ravages of the two decades or so since I got it.
I still have some in my drawer that I pull out every once in awhile. Worked there for years, then moved to Motorola, which became Freescale, then moved to Nokia (for Carbide development) and now Silicon Labs (Simplicity Studio development), where a healthy number of ex-MW employees still reside. Austin is a small developer town, at least for some of us.

I think it got tossed over the years… wish I still had it. I was so bummed when they disappeared – I loved everything about MW… constantly updated, great feature set for the time, affordable. I’ve never been anything other than a hobbiest programmer, so affordable was definitely a plus.
Xcode is fantastic now, but I do miss those days…
Yeah, CodeWarrior in its heyday was great. But by the time Xcode came out, it needed replacement. Xcode wasn’t a real replacement for a long time, but it evolved into one.
I was looking at some CodeWarrior screenshots earlier today for unrelated reasons. Remember how visually heavy it made header/source files? Weird times.
I still have a couple CodeWarrior shorts, but neither is that cool.
One of them has smelled terrible since the day I got it. Never figured out how to clean it well, but at least the smell has faded a lot over time.
I wept the day I had to retire my BBEdit: It Doesn’t Suck.® t-shirt.

I still have and wear my ‘ “They” use CodeWarrior” tshirt, as well as the CW shirt from WWDC 2000 (with the “stag” Arnold on the back, holding a letter ‘X’). If you want someone to take the MacWorld ’97 tshirt off your hands, holler. 😉
I still have my CodeWarrior Mac World ’97. The fit is more snug now but It is one of my favorites.
