A bust of Steve Jobs by famed Serbian sculptor Dragan Radenovic was unveiled in Belgrade today, the result of a competition covering more than 10,000 submitted works that will see the statue placed at Apple’s headquarters in Cupertino.
The statue unveiled today is a maquette, a sculpture substantially smaller than the final version for demonstration purposes, that features Jobs’ head at the top, with a pair of Cyrillic letters, the Latin letter A, and the binary digits one and zero. According to a report in the Serbian press [Google Translate], sketches of the proposed status were sent to Apple executives, who said they were very interested in the sculpture and liked “the imperfections of his work”.
This is pretty cool.
I’d like to like it but it reminds me too much of one of those South Park mutants.
Yeah, it’s odd. I like the messy “imperfect” style, but the bust doesn’t really look like him.

I think there is a lot of information missing from this story, as one might expect from websites hungry for content. For instance: what was this competition, and who sponsored it? The assumption here is that Apple did, but don’t you think if Apple sponsored a contest to create a Steve Jobs sculpture to be placed at its Cupertino headquarters, we would have heard about it before now? And a Serbian news site reporting that someone sent a sketch to Apple execs and got a nice letter back hardly indicates anything. My assumption here is that Apple has nothing whatsoever to do with this, that some group in Eastern Europe put together some kind of contest and thinks they are going to walk into Apple Headquarters and convince Apple to display this – well, ugly – sculpture.
I don’t think the statue represents Apple’s sense of taste or aesthetic.
It should have been machined out of a solid piece of Aluminum.
