This really hit home for me. Once, long ago, I was night skiing, and my contact lens popped out of my eye. It was a hard lens (do they even make those anymore?) and it was tinted blue. I searched and searched, on my hands and knees. It was cold and windy, but very well lit. After about a half an hour, I actually found the lens. And, I believe, I acted exactly the same way as this guy did.

I have to assume that he used a metal detector because it wouldn’t ring anymore due to moisture or a dead battery.
I recently helped my cousin recuperate his iPhone. When he got home and noticed it was missing, he called me to use ‘Find My iPhone’ which pinpointed an approximate location from the satellite image at about halfway up the ski trail on his last run of the day. His phone was luckily in a plastic bag, so when he walked up nearby he rang it up to find it in the snow.
