No matter how good the intentions or the system, there will always be those that try to take advantage. Apple’s App Store is no different.

that and the freemium model are problems.
You dont get that crap with paid apps of a decent value, say 10$ or above.
10 years ago, eg Ambrosia was able to make fantastic stuff with no hassle because a thing like EV nova was 30$ and their lesser titles were 10$.
This is sadly hilarious. Stupid is as stupid does.
First you bozos bitch and moan about Apple’s “walled garden.” Then, when that walled garden gets so big that “curation” gets spread a little thin, you bitch and moan about there not being ENOUGH curation? Hah! That’s funny.
There is a possibility that people who bitch about Apple’s “walled garden” and people who bitch about not enough curation are two distinct groups of people. The Internet is not a singular entity you know. 😉
Oh yes, let’s be totally reasonable and politically correct at all costs so as not to offend anyone. Oh, and why don’t we through out the concept of “right” and “wrong” while we’re at it!
What’s hilarious to me about this particular situation is the fallacy of expecting to be “protected” from “unfairness”, all the while gleefully jacking around on worthless pursuits, wasting one’s time and money playing video games, clicking on ads, and somehow expecting not to be the prey of the unscrupulous.
Kinda like whoring around and expecting not to have consequences like broken relationships and contracting STDs.
Who’s asking you to be politically correct? You’re reading too much into my comment.
All I’m saying is that the ones that bitch about the Apple’s wall garden and those that bitch about not enough curation are not necessary the same people as it is in your mind.
I don’t bitch about the wall garden. In fact I like the fact there is a “wall garden” and I feel there is not enough curation. Where do I stand in your mind, or is it I’m not part of the Internet you speak?
Ok, so perhaps I’m reading too much into yours, and perhaps you’re reading too much into mine.
Two points to make: there ARE such things as right and wrong–Apple’s walled garden curated app store is right, which is a significant draw for developers with its generous compensation. And it’s a draw for customers with its substantial “insurance” against objectionable content.
What’s relatively wrong with that is that Apple can’t be expected to practice perfect curation in every case, given the various intricacies of determining for itself exactly how to curate its content.
So caveat emptor still applies as always. Don’t blame Apple for the various intricacies of unscrupulous conduct, and don’t blame Apple for adjusting its curation standards with learned experience.
I actually agree with you. Except for that part where you lump the whole Internet into one entity. That’s my only beef with your initial comment. 😉
Having said that, I still do wish Apple would do more or are better at it. However, I am not expecting Apple to have a perfect curation system. There is no such thing as perfect system.
Right. People need to take responsibility for their choices and quit blaming others when unexpected or unwanted consequences occur.
