simple solution, stop using Nest/Google
A bit shrill, but he raised valid points.
Too simple an answer. As more products become “smart” and advertising companies such as Google buy them out, it becomes more and more difficult to avoid them. We need mandatory opt-in (not default opt-out). Take it or leave it isn’t a reasonable option.
sure it is, break it down, it’s a company selling a product. If you don’t like the terms of said product don’t buy it. They’re not selling a basic human need (i.e. food, water, air) so, yeah, you can take it or leave it.
Oh the cynics. Gotta love ad sales.
Very shrill. There’s no sense of magnitude here.
Quick question: Would you rather someone get a hold of all of the information from your smoke detector/thermostat or your email and smartphone (or even just one of them). Which one would you be more upset about being public?
Many will say it’s a matter of degree and vigilance. Once the camel’s nose is in the tent, the body soon follows unless you drive it out.
Would you rather use only one Google software product or all of them? Does it matter?
You are leaving out the part that smart devices will play in regards to appliances that you will need. If you have poor choices for replacement products because all the good ones have become “smart” and opt-in is default (with perhaps no opt-out) where is the real choice? Just leave it? Okay.
