That list was kinda dumb. First off, he assumes that drop-down menus are hover menus. He fails to recognize that drop-down menus historically and even today often rely on clicks rather than hovers. Indeed your Mac menu bar features “drop-down menus”.
Secondly, the Carousel will be more prominent with touch devices since swiping is such a popular gesture. Yahoo Tech just launched and features a carousel.
Internet Explorer 9 is NOT a design element. It is a browser.
Enough with bashing skeumorphism. Most who do it fail to really understand what it is and when it is useful (e.g.: Garage Band makes great use of skeumorphism). Bashing skeumorphism is what layman do to make themselves sound like UX elitists. Further, iOS 7 is far from “flat” since it actually uses tons of depth illusions.
I could go on, but reading that list was such a waste of time that I would rather not waste more time commenting.
crap. some of these things arent even design elements (IE9 is a browser, and shared hosting is, well, hosting).
also amusing — the author blasts timed carousels as “another ancient relic” that “have been phased out”…but when you click on his personal design company’s site, what do you get? a big fucking carousel. doh.
pointless clickbait.
A drop-down menu drops down when you hover over it. You are describing a pull-down menu …
Back in the day of early Mac and GEM, the distinction was clear (GEM had drop-down menus, the Mac had pull-down menus)
Helpful.
