Hello. My name is Chris Kluwe, and for eight years I was the punter for the Minnesota Vikings. In May 2013, the Vikings released me from the team.

I honestly don’t know if my activism was the reason I got fired.

However, I’m pretty confident it was.

Kluwe became famous off the football field back in September of 2012 when his letter to a politician went viral. It’s a sad end to his NFL career.

  1. It’s only a sad end to his career if it’s true. This is only one side of it. I’d like to hear all sides of this before passing judgment. I’m sure we won’t ever get this, so it’s a big “so what” in my book.

  4. Except that he was also released by the Raiders after that. Punters aren’t really football players anyway, so who gives a crap what they think? And coaches and owners have freedom of association in America. Unlike Canada, where only lefties have a right to their opinions.

    You do have a Human Rights Commission that actually criminalizes opinion speech based on its content!

  11. Seriously, in America there is this thing called “free speech.” Not just for employees, but employers, fans, anyone.

    And I don’t happen to think the pussification of one of the the last manly meritocracies (NFL) is a good thing. Pink flags and other PC crap that has old time NFL guys rolling in their graves.

  13. First, you might want to educate yourself as to what the HRC actually does and how free speech laws work in Canada before spewing off ignorant nonsense.

    Second, you obviously don’t remember what Ronald Reagan’s time in office was actually like. He was more of a right of centre/centrist president willing to compromise with Democrats than today’s do-nothing GOP/Tea Party Republicans think he was. RR would never make it through the primaries if he tried to run in today’s Republican party.

  15. I am well aware of the scary HRC and its attacks on free speech. I follow Mark Steyn on Twitter. Simply put, you can be prosecuted for speaking your mind about, for example, gays or Islam.

  16. Not at all. We don’t have the right to yell “Fire!” in a crowded theatre, for example. We don’t have the right to incite acts of violence against people. These are good limitations. There is no country on earth that gives you the right to say anything you want. Your right to free speech ends where the personal safety of others begins. This is a good thing.

  17. I am referring to OPINION speech, based on its content, not inciting violence or making threats. In Canada, one can be prosecuted for expressing his OPINION.

    Section 2b of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms:

    “Everyone has the following fundamental freedoms:

    (b) freedom of thought, belief, opinion and expression, including freedom of the press and other media of communication;”

    Now, if you still believe yourself to be correct, please point to a Canadian law which shows otherwise, that has been applied, and stood up to a charter challenge. Otherwise, just stop.
