The gaming world is a cesspit of maladjusted, comically aggressive, emotionally (and maybe actually) adolescent males who have a deep fear and distrust of women. The problematic gamers are, naturally, almost exclusively male – and no doubt skew towards the young side. No-one’s surprised by that. I’m not surprised.

At the level of the individual, sure, not everyone is welcome everywhere. But when people start harassing gamers only because they are women, they are going to get called out and, eventually, shut down. Society is getting pretty tired of this. People who harass female gamers, or defend the harassing of female gamers, are the moral equivalent of people who attacked blacks when they tried to sit at the same lunch counter with whites. Because, you know, not everyone is welcome everywhere.
The world is run by quarterbacks, so gamers should attack female gamers? That’s your argument, and it’s both stupid and offensive.
And just because you’re a loser doesn’t mean you’re a nerd. Nerds are smart; it’s a defining characteristic. You, as is clear from your posts, are not smart.

Most of these comments make me despair about the innate goodness of people consuming games, and I say this as an industry professional.
Women are not some mysterious gender with unknowable motives. We’re just people. And, guys, if you think you felt bullied as a kid, you should try spending 10 seconds watching your wife, your sister, or your female friend on XBLA. It is so frequently a horrible, demoralizing experience.
It’s clearly distinguishable by the line of legality and that makes all the difference in the world and not your imagined posturing.
That was discrimination put into law.
