New Kindle Fire HDX spot pokes fun at iPad Air and Jony Ive

This new ad does its best to make the case that the Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 (what an unwieldy name) is a better buy than the iPad Air.

It plays it smart, staying away from issues like build quality, app ecosystem, and overall design. If I was given the chance for a free iPad Air or a free Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 (did I mention the unwieldy name?), I’d take the iPad Air in a heartbeat. And I already have one.

  1. When I think back on the last 10 years or so, I can’t think of one device I’ve owned that’s been more of a pleasure to use than the iPad, and the iPad Air just takes that experience and makes it worlds better. The Kindle Fire is simply not a “big boy” tablet.

  2. Yeah, and less screen real estate for less too. I can’t see the pixels on the iPad Air, and 1 million pixels more on a smaller screen won’t help to Get Things Done.

Perhaps I’m too old to value such kind of comparison …

  3. 1 Shoe costs less than a pair of shoes. Even though that single shoe is a tighter fit and the pair of shoes are maybe half a size too big but I have a complete set of everything my feet need.

Which would you want to get?

Cheaper things are cheaper and higher quality, larger things cost more is what the ad is really saying.

  4. Most apple haters dont like Kindle Fires either. They tend to be (most of them) Google Android fans.

The kindle fire is more for the casual joe that does not care about tech that much but likes tablets. Kindle Fire owners (from what I have observed) rarely hate anyone.

  5. Ads that feel the need to directly mention the competition are dead in the water. Nothing drives home the “Me Too!” nature of a product faster than “please buy ours instead of theirs” ads. If the product was so great, it could stand on it’s own merits.

    1. The moment you mention another player you are losing.

    2. Is the screen difference really noticeable to the average user

  6. Comparison ads tend to make folks curious. And they do their own research and find that the two things are either basically equal or the dissed one is over all better
