Bob Woodward wishes Snowden had come to him

In an interview with Larry King scheduled to run Thursday night, Bob Woodward talked about NSA leaker Edward Snowden. “I wish he’d come to me instead of others, particularly The Guardian, and I would have said to him ‘let’s not reveal who you are. Let’s make you a protected source and give me time with this data and let’s sort it out and present it in a coherent way,’ ” Woodward tells King.

  1. How naive. NSA would have figured out it was Snowden by looking at Bob Woodward’s past email and phone records (and by reading his emails, and by tapping him 24/7).

  2. But if Snowden had done it that way, he wouldn’t have been able to garner all the glory and look like a hero to keyboard warriors around the world. It’s a different era than the one when “Deep Throat” didn’t want to be known at all.

  3. it is a different era — one in which it would be impossible to remain anonymous and undetected. you dont think the NSA would have been able to inspect their logs and see who transferred the data? it’s not like the good ole days when you just took some photos or stuffed files up your shirt.

nice attempt at reading another person’s mind for intentions, tho.

  4. Seems like he’s really asking the next Snowden to come to him … This is a national advertisement requesting sources.

  5. I don’t need to read his mind. His actions speak for themselves. Either Snowden is extremely naive or he’s a traitor. Only those two things would plan getting into the NSA, grab all he did, and then run off to China. Either he somehow doesn’t think the Chinese would go through all his hard drives with a fine tooth comb while they expertly debriefed him, or he’s a turncoat who ran off with classified information to a country that does as much if not more espionage against us. Of course China, Russia and Venezuela (which eventually just couldn’t handle taking him in) would love to have him on board to give the U.S. a black eye — and that’s assuming they didn’t just pay him in the first place.

If anything, this proves to me the NSA isn’t as much a boogeyman as everyone makes them out to be. They’re looky-loos and are at a stage where they don’t care who knows what they are doing — and that makes them eventually ineffectual. I worry less about them and more about the ones we don’t hear about.

Well, actually I don’t worry much, because, as we’ve seen, all the countries do this stuff to each other, friend and foe alike. They’ve been doing it for centuries and will continue to do so long after Snowden and his hullabaloo are long gone.
