The argument for an iPod Pro

Kirk McElhearn brings up some interesting points in his thoughts for Apple to bring an iPod Pro to market.

  1. I think there is a greater chance of Apple announcing that they will no longer be producing iPhones than there is of them bringing a device like that to the market.

  2. I am not sure about the iPod Pro. But how about an iPad Pro? 12″, 4K, maybe comes with a stylus. There is an iPad Air now, why not an iPad Pro? Come on, Apple!

  3. The world is full of people telling Apple that it “should” cater their exact specific needs. And all “suggestions” are actually wishes. I find these highly annoying to read. Examples:

“And they could let Jony Ive have free reign over the design of the iPod pro”

Oh, they “could”? I guess Apple wouldn’t have thought of it. Ohh, you mean you want your dream product to be designed by Ive.

“If it doesn’t need iOS, Apple could use this to try out a new type of user interface.”

Oh, they “could” create a completely, revolutionary new user interface for your product. Thanks for telling Apple that they have opportunities to invent new interfaces. What a neat idea.

The whole thing fails to address why Apple should build that product. It sounds like its full of reasons (“could” always sounds like an exciting opportunity.) but there are none (other than that at least one person is willing to pay a lot of money for it).
