Surface 2 battery life? Who knows, not Microsoft

Fuck it, just say 20 hours and be done with it. From the Microsoft site.

  1. More accurately, a lack of concern for detail, and bad proofreading.

It’s indicative of Microsoft’s general sloppiness.

(And I say this as someone who uses MS platforms for a living, and likes Windows just fine, if not as much as OSX.

But if you’ve ever had to use their Developer Resource – MSDN – you’d know what I meant. They don’t pay a lot of attention to details on their web content.)

  2. MSDN is lot better than iOS docs IMO. They are yet to update many to iOS7 except for a note saying so.

  3. As both a Mac and Windows developer (and a full time Apple person outside of work) MSDN absolutely puts the Apple developer documentation to shame.

  4. I’m in the same boat as you as a developer. I do think that overall the MSDN website is a bit easier to find what I’m looking for, but I don’t know that I’d go as far as saying that it puts Apple’s documentation to shame. I’ve found more than a few docs with incomplete information.

  5. It also says “change” instead of “charged” underneath the 8 hour battery quote. BUFFOONS

  6. What the heck is this sentence:

With up to an 8 hour battery life that keeps you change through the day, Surface 2 is powerful yet ultra- thin and lightweight.

… that keeps you charged[?] That’s a typo, makes it awkward to the read … the error Jim pointed out is spec that makes you wonder, is it really 10 hours? Maybe it’s 8 and the 10 was some marketing fluffing.

  7. It’s totally consistent. The battery itself is rated for 10 hours but the Surface 2 only has 8 hours of battery life because Windows is so terrible at managing battery life.

  8. “Just get it out there now. We’ll fix it later. Unless the Sales guys distract us again with more bullshit.”

  9. I own a surface 2 and I don’t have a clue what its battery life is. Its very erratic. Ive only had it a few days though so I’m hoping things will improve a bit over the next week.

  10. Battery tests made by PCMag showed the Surface 2 lasted nearly 15 hours (14 hours and 51 minutes). I’d say that’s pretty efficient considering the battery is the same 31.5 Wh as in the Windows RT that lasted 8 hours.

How long a battery lasts is heavily dependent on how you use the device, so it’s impossible to post an accurate number. I suppose they could post an interval based on maximum drain and minimum drain.
