Peter Kirn has a nice roundup of what music companies are saying about compatibility of their software with OS X Mavericks. I’ve always kept my music machine one OS version behind just to make sure I’m compatible.
OS X Mavericks compatibility with music software
The one-version-behind strategy won’t be an option with the new Mac Pro though, will it Jim?
That computer isn’t out yet and I predict that, by then, we’ll have all the software updates we need to carry on.
In the 1990s I worked for a company that had its own recording studio and we used ProTools. We had to wait on installing the smallest upgrade on those Macs until we got an OK from Avid (or did someone else own ProTools back then). It was very frustrating at times since the wait could be long, sometimes greatly delaying the purchase of new computers.
I expect you’re right. The question was more about whether you’d even be able to install a prior OS onto the new hardware. It may be important for some potential buyers, or it will force people to wait until their critical piece of software gets updated.
My Edirol Fa-66 works better with Mavericks than ML.
