BlackBerry halts BBM rollout

BlackBerry has halted the planned rollout of their BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) app for iPhone and Android, and pulled it from those regional App Stores that already launched it, like New Zealand.

There are just no words.

  1. First that came to my mind: Blackberry just hasn’t learned when you’re dead, lie down. Or maybe they have.

(We’ll see who knows the reference without using google

  2. The must have let go of the employees go that could develop the applications/server service to have those applications in the Messenger Preparatory Service.

  3. Boo. Another month (or two or twelve) before the endangered BlackBerry-toting clients quit chewing through my SMS allowance.

  4. So according to the article it was a pirated version of the Android app that caused them to do this? They weren’t ready for it to scale this quickly and they haven’t even built an iOS7 version of the app? Oh dear.

It seems that Blackberry had no idea how big the smartphone market actually was.

  5. The servers couldn’t handle the overload after more than the usual 4 people tried using it at the same time. When the 5th person tried, the whole thing crashed.

  6. I’m guessing they laid off whoever was insulating the developers from upper management; people who had knowledge of quality control and implementation. Once that happens, there’s nothing standing in the way of upper management from making idiotic decisions about processes it doesn’t understand.

    Best comment about Blackberry EVER!
