Samsung might have a 10-figure advertising budget, but it still managed to create an ad with such bad acting (and horribly sexist undertones) that it was pulled shortly after being spotted–and relentlessly mocked–by Reddit members Thursday.
It’s just painful to watch.
That was painful.
Pretty sure the geek kids glasses don’t have any lenses in them. I know that could be an issue for reflections / lighting, but surely if it’s important for his character to have glasses, they need lenses!
At least it was shorter than that vintage PBS guide to the internet!
I can’t help but notice that the only woman they have in the ad is sitting in a kitchen.
God dammit, Samsung, I was just on here not two weeks ago espousing how great your semiconductor division is (they make the EVO series solid-state drives advertised here). Even if their advertising department wants to run them into the ground, the SSDs are good products.
This commercial does give me an Asian campiness vibe –for some reason advertisers over there love infomercial-style overacting– but even if one of the actors claims that it was in fact intended for a Korean audience, it’s just going to look like they’re covering for either Samsung or their own incompetence.
Uh, that was, like, one of many problems. She also talks about doing chores, helping kids with her homework, has no idea how electronics work– she was a walking, talking stereotype of women.
but …IT”S SO THIN AND LIGHT!?
I love Samsung’s SSDs but this ad is truly horrible. I’d call it a mexican soap opera of advertising.
He does if you make it to 2:30.
“Look at what I’ve done. I feel like an expert.”
The sad part is wearing frames, i.e. no lenses, is considered a fashion statement in Korea.
World’s worst OS meets world’s most copycat company meets the world’s worst actors. Oh and world’s worst music to boot.
Wow…I made it right before they got the SSD and thought it was done. They started talking about it and I closed it.
That would’ve been a GREAT start to a parody.
I love this so much as an example of a cross-cultural trainwreck. We all saw a similar effect during Qualcomm’s CES keynote, which paraded hateful stereotypes introduced by a CEO who’d been told to fake it you can’t feel it.
Absolutely no surprise that this was written, directed, and vetted by non-English speakers.
And housewifey must be a Mormon; I can see her magic underwear. Which probably was what helped her install a hard drive in a laptop.
Which is, you know, what housewives love to do. And most consumers, too. So many ordinary consumers love to install things in their computers.
What made me laugh the most are the 1000 steps you have to go through when replacing a regular hard drive. They’re showing an old type tower peecee, my how times have changed. The “problems” of a slow computer are because of the stupid OS, in this case, Windoze. This is just gawd awful.
Does it bother you that your headline claims its an ad but in fact it is not.
P.S.
Read the headline of your link…… for more information
amateur
A bit harsh but it did make me look at the text. It seems it was on purpose for dubbing:
“THE OVERACTING WAS INTENTIONAL TO REACH A KOREAN AUDIENCE, ONE OF THE ACTORS CLAIMS.”
…and…
“They force us to speak slowly since this will be dubbed over in Korean, and even when it isnt, most people viewing it will be Korean. “
I can cut them a bit of slack on those points.
Wow, I’m going to get one of those SSDs, it will be great for storing recipes and balancing my checkbook!
“horribly sexist undertones” Oh noes! Man, this site isn’t really sure if it wants to be politically incorrect or not.
So what? Sounds just like my mom, who is awesome. Stop being a PC ninny. The US would be a helluva lot better off if more moms stayed at home and raised their kids.
Shut up, cunt
Do you feel the same about dads?
Yes, and I’m sure you tell her how awesome she is when she tucks you into bed at night, you twit.
If you would actually tell women that they can be whatever they want to be and won’t suggest they stay at home to pop out kids, they’d be more willing to sleep with you. And then you wouldn’t be staying at home in your parents’ basement, masturbating into a jar.
