iPhone buyers are richer, better educated and younger than Samsung’s

They forgot better looking too.

  1. Ironic. All those wasted Billions Samsung spent advertising “the fact” that younger users were abandoning the iPhone.

  2. A lot of confrontational people will play it both ways– that only the old (can’t understand newfangled things) or the very young (baby’s first smartphone) would use iOS.

  3. Apple has typically retained the business of well-educated, affluent folks, haven’t they? Without trying to pass it off as fact, I assume it’s because Apple’s “lofty price, lofty service” would appeal to people who can easily afford it (and those who are well-educated are more likely to be making good money).

No idea as to why iPhone buyers would be younger (not that it’s a bad thing). Another assumption is that if you can afford either, you would go with what’s simpler to use and has the most apps. Android would attract more of the computing enthusiasts I would imagine, but they wouldn’t make up a majority of young people.

  4. I believe that this survey is true, but I think the survey would be more in Apple’s favor if they would have used more than 500 subjects in 4 quarterly surveys (total 2000 subjects). This survey could almost certainly not be geographically broad with only 500 subjects per survey (assuming 250 subjects for Apple buyers and 250 subjects being Samsung buyers)

  5. “Methodology: Four quarterly surveys of U.S. smartphone buyers from July 2012 to June 2013. Each survey consisted of 500 subjects who purchased a mobile phone in the preceding 90 days.”

^ Epitome of “grain of salt” here. 😉
