But can she play the blues? I’m guessing probably, yes 🙂
Looking at this and her previous effort I’d say she is brilliant at playing notes written for her. There’s no sign that she could play ad lib or play the blues. Keith Emerson was a brilliant keyboard player who revolutionized rock music. His few efforts to play the blues were sadly laughable. So No, I hear nothing to indicate she can play the blues.
Eddie Van Halen’s? Sounds like Vivaldi.
Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons, Summer: Presto”
Read the title again to notice the Van Halen bit being a link to a previous vid.
Search for “Tina S guitar” on Youtube.
She’s 14. According to the Suzuki method, learning to play that way is a good way to get started. (I don’t subscribe to that theory, though in college I took violin lessons from Suzuki’s first student, Yuko Honda).
The danger is that the person will never learn to read music. But in this case, I’m not sure there’s much danger. The danger is in whether she’ll ever be able to be creative and some up with her own “eruption.”
I suspect with the right mentor, she’s got a bright future. Once you master the physical technique, it’s simply up to being open to the right muses.
Don, you’re a bitter, bitter man.
You cite Keith Emerson as not being able to play the blues. But he COULD improvise (ad lib) like nobody’s business. And he was an amazing composer. Just because he didn’t use the “blues scales” doesn’t mean he didn’t play with heart and soul. He did.
Same thing with this gal. She’s 13 for crying out loud. She probably hasn’t even kissed a boy (or girl) so what would she even know about pain.
All I’m saying is that you need to cut musicians like this a break. She’s a huge talent. Developed? No. But a talent nonetheless. Let’s see what happens when she starts composing.
And btw…..where can we hear YOU playing the blues?
Sorry to disappoint you, Freddy, but I’m not bitter at all. I’m not questioning whether Emerson could improvise. I said he couldn’t play the blues, and after having heard his recordings since he was in The Nice, having seen him perform in person well over a dozen times, and having met him, I stand by what I wrote. I cannot predict the future. It may be she will be a wonderful guitarist who cannot play the blues. There are lots of people like that. She is what she is. Sorry if you can’t deal with reality.
On the other hand, I do agree with with Hrunga Zmuda.
Damn her tone is horrific … but she’s VERY talented. She should work on getting off the digital crap and buy herself a Marshall YJM 😉
Much Respect for this girl’s talent. You rock dear, and may your playing always bring you joy.
What’s wrong with you?
(The answer is “a lot”, if you’re really wondering.)
