  1. I read this early today, I’m glad the news is now filtering out. Will they get dinged for this? I doubt it.

  2. I wish it was easier to dislike Samsung on the whole, but they have their hands in so many different pots it’s pretty much impossible. Samsung Mobile and the marketing agencies they use? Yeah, they’re pretty terrible oftentimes.

Samsung Semiconductor? Some great products there. Their consumer-grade SSDs are fantastic, and the optimization software they include is actually good. I know, crazy, right? Good Samsung software. And since they aren’t in as highly visible consumer markets as cell phones and fully built PCs, their marketing is pretty subdued. I daresay they’ve not once insulted my intelligence.

It seems like it’d be simpler to avoid Samsung altogether and be done with it, but there’s a few good apples on that tree.

  3. Define “dinged.” I usually see people use that word for fines, but I’m not sure if that’d be applicable here.

What are you hoping will happen?

  4. Meh, I have several SSDs from the likes of Crucial, Sandisk and OCZ and they’re all great.

Samsung probably fakes those benchmarks too, as they did for the Galaxy S4.

All their business units ultimatelly respond to the same crook, Lee Kun-hee and his family.

  5. Samsung’s chairman was convicted of corruption twice. He got pardoned both times. Paying off a few devs is one of the least corrupt things Samsung has done.

  6. There’s probably also at least one division of News Corp that’s run less destructively than Fox News.

  7. What OCZ model, if you don’t mind my asking? I seldom hear anything good about their drives.

And as far as I know, most respectable places have put the Samsung drives through their paces and have been pleased (in particular Anandtech, which were the ones to uncover BenchmarkBooster in the S4 Octa). The Samsung 840 EVO being released in a couple days has seen glowing reviews. Supposed to be the best non-professional SSD on the market, or nearly.

  8. Yeah, and so should we punish the people who have nothing to do with it, just because they happen to fall under the same umbrella as some shitty fellow subsidiaries?

Seems like we should reward the ones who aren’t being scumbags. Or at least not punish them when they provide a good product/service.

  9. No, the company as an entity should be punished for having used its corporate status to do shitty things, and the specific leadership that made those decisions should be liable, too.
