  1. A remarkable man with an amazing disposition, considering all the sorts of unpleasantness he underwent during his life.

One of my favorite radio stations, WKCR (http://www.studentaffairs.columbia.edu/wkcr/), does a Louis Armstrong birthday broadcast every year on August 4. 24 hours of his music, straight through. I try to catch it when I can.

  2. People don’t understand that what Armstrong did in the ’20s was as revolutionary as the Beatles were in the ’60s… probably more.
Its just that what he created has become so integral to the entire world’s ‘ears’ that we completely take it for granted.

  3. There are only two sounds of trumpet in the 20 century..that of Louis Armstrong and Miles Davis; all the rest can be traced back to the two giants.
