This is quite possibly the dumbest comparison. Completely different price points, different form factors, etc.

Excellent comment. Totally agree, even though I’m one of those hooked (to the desperate level) to Excel VBA macros despite I’m a 35 year old engineer.
Thanks for the comments. As you can see on the post I just updated, I returned the Surface last night.
I could see it working for somebody who doesn’t already have a compact, light laptop (or two) as well as a tablet (or two). But I wasn’t making a Surface-or-iPad-mini choice in isolation, and I couldn’t picture enough occasions when I’d pick that up instead of all of the other computing devices on hand.
