The agency said it has relied on RIM for eight years, but the company “can no longer meet the mobile technology needs of the agency.”
It also said it analyzed Apple’s iOS-based devices and Google Inc’s Android operating system and concluded that, for the near term, Apple’s iPhone services offer the best technology for the agency because of Apple’s tight controls of the hardware platform and operating system.
Seriously, who’s surprised? They could have gone with Android, but it leaks passwords like a sieve.
ICE chooses Apple because of Apple’s tight controls. There’s an irony in there somewhere… Just can’t put my finger on it…

Ouch! When a federal agency dumps a device for not being modern enough, you know it’s bad.
Sad.
I would see ICE continue to use BB as it would reduce ICE’s efficiency.
One of my Fed clients has been migrating to iPhones and iPads over the last few years (they even want an iOS version of our application for mobile/field operations). Their CTO cites pretty much the same analysis and conclusion.
