Verizon Wireless said Monday that it won’t prevent its version of the iPhone 5 from being used on AT&T’s network.
This marks the first time Verizon has sold a phone that will work on other U.S. networks without it needing to be unlocked.
What it means for consumers is that if you buy an iPhone 5 from Verizon today and decide when your contract is up to switch providers to, say, AT&T, you can continue to use the same phone without having to jump through hoops to get it to work.
Quality decision!
The government should do this with all cellular spectrum.
I read though that the only thing that would be not as ideal is that since the spectrums for LTE are locked into the chip, you can use HDSPA on ATT but not LTE, even with the unlocked phone.
Anyone knows if I could by Verizon’s iPhone 5 at full price (I live in Brazil so I want the GSM unlocked thing) and when I’m in the US, say for WWDC, if I could activate an Verizon pre-paid plan to have internet and a US number?

You mean the FCC actually handed down a decision to an industry player that had real teeth in it? And it works out well for consumers?
