The Savant Experience Center, which took eight months to craft and opened in July, was designed by Thom Filicia of TV show “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” fame. It hosts a master bedroom with a walk-in closet, a loft-like living room, a Theo Kalomirakis-designed home theater, even a sports bar. But the real draw isn’t the lavish layout (which also has a hotel room, an office and a classroom); it’s the technology that covertly operates the space. Every “room” in the center is automated by Savant Systems and easily controlled with Apple products like iPads, iPhones and iPod Touch-embedded remote controls.
Savant makes really cool home automation systems and features Apple technology front and center. Apple stuff isn’t added on as an afterthought, like it is for some home automation companies. At Savant, Apple hardware and software is truly a centerpiece of how it works. I have a special affinity for them not only because of the Apple angle, but because they’re not too far away from where I live.
Must be nice being rich.

How will money be created. Apple is not going to sell to bottom 5 billion people. come on get with the program.
I program savant systems for a living. Apple tech is build deep deep into the core of savant’s product its both a blessing and curse.
home automation in general is going to grow (a lot) however at the moment its so immature now that most people wouldn’t be able to deal with with, especially without having people like me on call 24/7. the silver lining to this is that as we do more work we learn more, things get better and eventually there will be a product for every home at a decent cost that will work and do useful things in the home. as i see it not for another 5 years
side note, dont get pulled in my comcast, verzion, adt. they have a home automation system, the marketing make its look useful. unfortunately its buggy and extremely limited in functionality, save your money for something better.
We’ve done Savant systems before and if you keep things simple and inside their box, it can be very cool. They have a unique way to “hack” integrate iTunes into their distributed audio. However, the weakness is in the control system side. Frankly it’s terrible. Control 4 costs quite a bit less and can do more things, and if you’re going to spend Savant money, buy a Crestron system. You get the same iPhone and iPad control capability, with a control system behind it that can actually do anything, control anything and not need rebooting for software updates. Savant is a great promise wildly unfulfilled.
