The Verge isn’t bad and the pictures are worth a thousand words. Moreover, the first comments call out the obviousness in design. Samsung holds no surprises. After seeing so much Samsung derivative design, it all becomes a blur.
Easy, The Verge.
Come on. It’s Samsung. One article that overlooks the blatant copying is certainly bad reporting. But it is not even remotely close to actual copying itself.
@IFA Samsung just showed a prototype of Win8 Laptop Series 5 13″ 2560×1600 HiDPI matte display probably IPS. Does that Samsung is copying Apple.
article is on engadget
holy shit, that’s a Samsung? Doubletakeshakeshead
Totally reminded me of the Kickstarter “make a laptop out of your iPad” keyboard at first.
The question that keeps popping into my head is:
“What else do you expect from New Media Douchebags working at The Verge?”
The people at The Verge are good people. My best guess? Maybe they didn’t mention the similarity because if they pointed out the similarity with every new “Ultrabook” Air-ripoff that hit the market, it would get pretty old.
The Verge’s article was not an opinion piece. They did not say, “Whoa! Look at Samsung’s completely original and non-Apple-copying laptops.” It’s just a report. All they said was “Look. Samsung released some new laptops.” Design wasn’t even discussed. Do they have to comment the Apple design similarities of every single product that is ever released? Are they allowed to simply report the news?
The Verge will be trying not to ignite any further fanboy wars in their comments. I feel bad for them – they have an amazing product that is very well written, but their commenters are dragging it down to Engadget’s level. I don’t blame them for growing tired of it and skirting the issue for this one report.
