I disagree with the notion that Apple ever caused the ‘race to the bottom’. That was nothing more than consumer greed.
But I do agree that freemium has gotten a bad rap. As have in app purchases. They can both be used well.
A good fremium app is in where you can use the app effectively without paying a dime. A drawing app where you have a pencil and a brush and the basic colors and you can save, print, email etc. but you can pay for more brushes, more colors etc. on the game side, a game you can play fully or pay to play faster. temple Run does this well. You can earn the coins you need in game without spending a dime. OR buy
