Matthew Panzarino:
Tweetbot developer Tapbots has announced that it has pulled its very popular alpha Mac app from release due to the new caps on maximum users that Twitter recently said it would begin enforcing. The developers have tried to work with Twitter to come up with a way to have the alpha not eat up the limited amount of slots available to them, but says that Twitter has been uncooperative.
Translation: Twitter really, really, REALLY wants App Dot Net to be a success. This sounds like My Space doing what it could in order to make Facebook the winner.
Sounds like I get to soon go back to using the non-updated version of Twitter for the Mac.
Awesome.
Edit: Looks like there should still be an official release though. Hopefully that isn’t too far off.
Gottasay that the current Mac Tweetbot alpha (0.6.3) is working well. Like heck am I going to use the official Twitter client. Could do with some nudges from Apple in support of Tapbots.
The current release is 0.7.0.
Dang. Am stuck in the last version then (just ran the internal update check). Still, sounds like this is NOT the death of TweetBot for Mac – they are just trying to preserve slots.
This is what happens when you start a company with no business plan whatsoever, then try to graft one on because the VCs are moving from “We’d LOVE to help you” to “Look, you either get us our fucking money, or you sell to someone who will get us our fucking money.”
VCs are never your friend. They are at best, slightly more polite loan sharks.
Twitter needs a good hard shot in the ball sack. They’re turning into a bunch of assholes who are badly in need of some attitude adjustment towards the people who made them successful.
Dickheads!
I tried to get into Twitter but it never made sense. The signal-to-noise ratio was way too low. I guess it’s working out for me.
Twitter is cutting of it’s own nose despite their face. This is the beginning of the end and Google is licking their collective chops. Now if a Google+ app makes it rounds Twitter is done and will be sadder than MySpace became.
Yep hey haven’t cut the release, just the public testing
