In a blog post, Robert Scoble said while Samsung will take a big PR hit and lose $1 billion, it was worth it to copy Apple because it vaulted the company ahead of other smartphone rivals. Samsung also sells an array of products that Apple doesn’t and setting up the comparison with Apple worked out well for the entire company, Scoble said.
That’s true. Samsung has been copying Apple for five years and in that time have become one of market share leaders. That’s something Apple can’t get back.
That’s ok. Apple has their billions of dollars and knowing the market “leader” can’t do a thing without them to console themselves with.
It worked out well to get them to where they are today, but looking forward, if Samsung is forced into licensing various patents from Apple, that could be a bit worrying for their mobile phone business.
On the other hand though, I hope this entire trial forces these OEMs to innovate around these designs and come up with something new and great.
That’s how consumers get ahead in all this.
As long as Samsung play the ‘we are being oppressed’ card, the Android fan base will go up in arms in attempts to ‘stick it to the man’. Just like how Apple portray themselves at war against IBM in the early days. I just wonder how the mobile landscape will look like if not for Samsung’s shameless ripping off Apple.
I think this can make Samsung a much stronger company. If they are forced to innovate now, they could have a much stronger product line-up and a much more innovative DNA in the next few years.
If I have only 1000dollar in my pocket, I will buy pitcher cellular phone,such as Samsung, lg or Noka then i will buy MS Windows Pc. Not iPhone with Mac book

If i was Samsung I would be insulted by Scoble’s article for many reasons but for me the worst insult is the “It’s only a crime if we get caught” thinking implicit in his article
This is the odious and insufferable excuse used by companies who discharge toxic waste anywhere and everywhere to save money and by organizations who condone ethnic cleansing.
