Just playing devil’s advocate here, but aren’t things like this said all time? “You’re good, you’ll always have a job here.” Things change.

Yeah, exactly. I heard, “we’re not selling the company to anyone who wants to come in and change management, or change how we do things!”, 6 months forward, I’m unemployed and the company moved half way across the US. People say stuff all the time.
But surely the verbal agreement would only be valid under Steve Job’s tenure. Surely Tim Cook can’t be bound by what Jobs may or may not have said.
