“The first printers I ever had regular access to were ImageWriters, attached to various members of the Apple II family.”
Bah! Back in my day, we used CuneiCarvers, which received wireless semaphore signals from the abacus operators. 18 dots (wedges, actually) to the cubit was cutting edge, so to speak…
Just read Mr Gruber’s article and really enjoyed it. He writes eloquently and with passion about dots and fonts and all matter of the “computer experience” that are so easily taken for granted. Like a wise sensei or yogi he gently and lovingly places the importance of these before the reader without shaming the reader with a heavy handed “you got a choice of nothing or a miserable user experience unless these are done right!”
I have yet to figure out to to respond to his columns with the ease of The Loop or Macworld or I’d send this to along with congratulations and best wishes for more 10 year anniversaries of Daring Fireball.
