Here is Apple’s Mac mini first released in 2005.
And here is Samsung’s new Chromebox.
It’s been pointed out before, but just another example.

This is actually the mid-2011 disc-less model but the point is made.
Ugh, I don’t know how many times it needs to be said: A SQUARE FORM WITH ROUNDED CORNERS IS TOTALLY OBVIOUS AND CAN’T BE COPYRIGHTED, AND BESIDES THIS ONE IS BLACK ON TOP AND HAS NO APPLE LOGO SO IT ISN’T A COPY. For crying out loud, it says “Samsung” right on it! Nowhere does it say “Apple” in text on the Mac Mini. Sheesh!
I believe that’s a late 2009 Mac Mini. Prior to that, Mac Minis had a taller profile with a white glass top and aluminium sides.
You’ve got to be assuming everyone is stupid with the “black rectangle” argument. Either that, or you know nothing about design. Funny us Apple enthusiasts get accused of being sheep, but good grief, we are nothing in that department compared to the Fandroids. If you knew a thing about design you’d know there are lots of ways to make black rectangles on devices, or real world objects of any sort, that differentiates that design from another design. Even still, Samsung misses the principles of design that makes Apple great, so all they can do is copy. If they used Apple’s principles to make different designs, I’d tip my cap to them. That’s not happening here.
Oh no. Am i wrong?. Its all samsung product. But using apple logo on first picture.
Apple is really proud of you, Jim…
I think everybody has understood that Samsung is a corporation with a lot of inspirations
Surely, you’re being sarcastic?!
Search “Samsung Keyboard Pleomax” .. it’s old, but the white and black version were very original too…
Um, perhaps you’re a little irony-impaired.
Why not get a Mercedes Benz or BMW, even a Lamborghini and put a Samsung name and logo on it. Bingo! It became a Samsung product.
I thought the word is benchmarked?
Soon to be renamed: chromebox mini. And to make your life easier, you can connect it to your Chrome TV. That doesn’t looks like an apple TV, considering it’s black samsung logo on top.
And in true Samsung fashion, they still manage to screw it up.
Speaking of the Mac mini, when are you going to dig up some info on the next revision Jim? Let’s get a Mac mini related “yep”
Oh, sure. I’ve ALWAYS loved Apple products. They ALWAYS have worked well and are ALWAYS well-designed. That’s why when I open the dictionary and look up “well-designed” It’s CLEARLY an Apple logo there. No need for any text or anything. rolls eyes
Yeah, right, sure I am.
Samsung (for that matter most of Asian country) corporate strategy is to copy good product and get a foot hold on the market, then worry about litigation. Especially if the company has lot’s of money in the bank.
The best part is how they copied the circular opening on the bottom. It isn’t just rectangles anymore!
and aluminum construction can’t be copyrighted, and the round access panel can’t be copyrighted, etc. Ugh, I don’t know how many times it needs to be said: YOU HAVE TO LOOK AT THE DESIGN AS A WHOLE AND NOT CHOOSE ONE DESIGN ELEMENT AND CLAIM IT CAN’T BE COPYRIGHTED.
The letters A, B, C, …, X, Y, Z can’t be copyrighted either. But that doesn’t mean I can freely arrange those letters in the same order as a bestselling novel and sell my own novels.
Man – you gotta show the copied bottom twist off lid too!!
Hey, don’t give them ideas!
Are you arguing that Apple doesn’t produce good designs?
Samsung would appear to disagree.
Yeah, right. “Apple produces good designs.” Whatever.
You are a sheep. The problem with Apple enthusiasts is this damned holier than thou argument. It wears thin.
So. What.
Just as the court documents today proved, where it counts (ie the bank balance ) Samsung do not compete with Apple. Now stop acting like a bunch of 5 year old son complaining about “someone copying you” and grow the hell up.
Wow. You’re really Easton them Jim. Why didn’t you show the bottom??
Easy on them.
Both of them also have a circular hatch on the bottom, to access the internals. Because, as we all know, circular hatch is obvious and only way to make such a hatch.
As usual, certain design-elements become obvious and essential about five seconds after Apple releases their product…
They should’ve just made it 3 times as tall: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0fOJeimpzcQ. 🙂
The photo of the Mac Mini is a 2010 model, surely! It doesn’t even have a superdrive, it’s a server model, I think.
Actually the court documents are now showing that Samsung clearly compared their designs to Apple’s and then changed theirs to match accordingly. Did you know Samsung got sued by RIM a few years ago for their Blackberry clone, the Blackjack? No one cried “foul” at RIM for pursing litigation, oddly, but it just goes to show you that Samsung has been in this same hot water before. Ever seen a Sony tablet? Apple never sued them. Why? Because their tablets look nothing like the iPad. What? You mean there are other tablet designs besides rounded rects? Yup, but Samsung didn’t bother to investigate those, it’s much less time-consuming to copy than to research and they didn’t want to risk falling behind…like RIM did. Even if you’re an Apple-hater, you can still be on the right side of the argument.
If being on the “right” side of an argument means being a pedant then no, I would rather not be.
It is not about hating Apple. It is about defending common sense which you Apple fanbois seem incapable of doing. It is all well and good to favour/support/love a brand. But when it comes to bullying I draw the line.
Apple are headed to the rocks because of them sitting on their hands. They should shut the Hell up and produce a device worth something rather than attack everyone else. Aside from bumping up resolutions on hardware, where is the software innovation in the last 2 years? Siri? White elephant more like.
You honestly think that if Sony were Apple’s nearest tablet competitor then Apple would not be suing? They would find a way. They would find some inevitable patent infringement to drag their competitors through the courts with. Samsung is only the beginning. If Apple win the God help everyone else. Not that Samsung don’t need to be taken down a peg or two. They do. But not this way.
Why Apple not keep concentrating in their own product instead of showing frustration on Samsung’s growing popularity and customer base.
Apple should be strong enough to ignore what others do with their design, let me ask you a question when apple design these products from where they get these inspiration, definitely not from any other universe right?
All these arguments only helps Samsung to grow more and more and penetrate into the global market, because if Apple themselves claim that samsung copies them then automatically the customer going in the Apple store will also think at least once to visit Samsung as well, may be can get the same thing in the lesser cost.
Apple itself promoting Samsung without knowing it.
