Apple removes YouTube app from iOS 6

Apple said in a statement on Monday that its license to include the YouTube app in the iOS operating system “has ended.” Apple noted that “customers can use YouTube in the Safari browser and Google is working on a new YouTube app to be on the app store.”

Seems odd for Apple to issues a statement for an operating system that’s in beta and under NDA.

  1. (Hopefully) stops a news cycle of mindless speculation and hysteria.

I’d actually disabled using the YouTube app thru restrictions ages ago and just use Safari or a RSS Reader app like Dr Reader or Newsify. Flipping out to the YouTube app all the time a pain in the butt.

  2. I actually prefer Google making its own app. The G+ app is very nice, so allowing Google to create its own app and tie it together with its overall product vision makes sense and could work out well.

  3. real question is will older version of youtube.app still work. or
can we extract from previous os to put in as new app
    in IOS 6.

Any one salivating for google version will be sorry when you have
to see all the ads that google will plaster just to make up for the maps loss. not to talk about all the ugly comments that you see in youtube website.

  4. Google is killing 3rd party YouTube apps for the same reason Twitter is killing 3rd party apps – so they can control the adverts. Say what you want about the quality of the iOS YouTube app, but at least it doesn’t force you to watch unskippable ads for every video you click on.

  5. then Google should block adblock from the browser
then the real fun begins. Let see what their most staunchest supporters say after that.

  6. Not that odd. They knew it would leak out and rumors of why would start. So they nip it in the bud now

  7. “to be on the App Store” is awkward phrasing, too. When I first read that quote on the Verge, I half-doubted that it really came from Apple PR, but I guess it did.
